A cat owner from the U.K. thought she knew how confident her rescue kitty is, but it was only after receiving a photo from her neighbor that she realized just how daring he truly is.
Rose, from Cheshire, U.K, has always known that her senior rescue cat, named Mimi, likes to wander, but she didn’t quite expect the extent of his curiosity. To Rose’s surprise, Mimi, who is thought to be around 10 years old, has been showing up at the neighbor’s window just to spy on their house.
Indeed, this is quite the regular occurrence for Mimi, it turns out. Rose told Newsweek that her cat “sits there quite often” on the neighbor’s window, just watching and observing. The neighbor couldn’t resist capturing a picture of the black and white cat at her window and sent it to Rose.
“My neighbor actually took the photo last week and sent it to me after spotting him in her garden,” Rose said. “He was staring into her house and setting the dogs off barking. I honestly couldn’t believe it, he looked completely at home, as if it was his own furniture.”
What makes Mimi’s exploration even more audacious is the fact the neighbor has a Great Dane and a Labrador, but he’s still completely unfazed. The two large dogs don’t seem to perturb Mimi from going into the yard and sitting by the neighbor’s window, leading Rose to joke that he’s “a bit of a character.”
Rose loves to capture Mimi’s antics and share them on the cat’s dedicated social media account (@mimifindsherway on TikTok). She posted the picture of Mimi “spying on” the neighbor’s house and it’s left the internet in hysterics, generating over 124,300 views and more than 6,400 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
In addition to the neighbor’s photo, Rose also shared snippets of the text conversation they had about Mimi. The neighbor revealed that her dog “wasn’t impressed” by the cat’s appearance.
When Mimi was initially rescued, he was believed to be a girl, hence the name. That also inspired Rose’s children’s book about her feline, Mimi Finds Her Way. The book is part of a series about Mimi’s journey, highlighting just how brave and adventurous he is (especially since it appears that even Great Danes don’t scare him).
“He’s always been very curious and seems to enjoy keeping an eye on what’s going on next door,” Rose told Newsweek. “It actually shocks me how confident he is to sit on my neighbor’s window, staring in when he knows there’s two big dogs there. He definitely does things his own way.”
Social media users can’t get enough of Mimi’s bold decision to spy on the neighbor so brazenly. Many people even took to the comments to laud his apparent fearlessness while others shared their own experiences with cats who think they run the town.
One comment reads: “I think the dog should be worried, look at the cat’s menacing face.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “cats are so nosey and they are proud of it.”
While another person joked: “I’m constantly getting messages from my friend saying he’s at her place, eating her cats food, or sleeping on her bed.”
