The three-time NBA Dunk Contest Champion, Mac McClung, has landed with another NBA team. He reunites with the Chicago Bulls on a two-way contract, according to The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer.
Chicago adds McClung after making a series of moves ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline. For McClung, it’s a reunion with the Bulls’ main roster, as they had him on board earlier in his career.
Since going undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2021, McClung has been in and out of the NBA G League. He started his career with the South Bay Lakers. He signed a 10-day contract with the Bulls in December 2021. He appeared in just one game, seeing the court for one minute. That same year, McClung appeared in one game with the Los Angeles Lakers.
During the 2022-2023 NBA season, McClung became a hit within the NBA for his Dunk Contest success. He became the first member of the Philadelphia 76ers to win the title. He also helped lead the 76ers’ G League team to a Finals victory. With the Sixers’ main roster, McClung appeared in two games, averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 assists as a two-way signee.
The Orlando Magic and the Indiana Pacers are the other two teams to give McClung a shot. He appeared in two games with the Magic during the 2024-2025 season. This year, he started the season off with a multi-year contract on the Pacers. He would last until early November before getting waived. McClung left Indiana with three appearances. He averaged 6.3 points while shooting 38 percent from the field.
During the regular season with the Bulls’ G League team, McClung has been thriving. He averaged 27.1 points per game, shooting 51 percent from the field. He’s also nearly averaging a double-double with 7.9 assists per game. Defensively, he’s coming down with 2.9 rebounds per game and snatching up 1.3 steals per game.
With the Bulls being in a rebuilding situation, they could end up experimenting more with McClung in the lineup. It’s unclear if he’ll immediately get a call-up, but this opportunity could be a strong one for McClung, who has been looking for a steady role on a main roster since becoming a viral sensation at the league’s All-Star weekend.
