A Crystal Lake man has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Loop parking garage Monday.
Garland Benton, 45, faces charges of aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, Chicago police said.
Benton is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
A 20-year-old woman was walking in the first block of North Michigan Avenue at 6:35 a.m. when, police said, Benton allegedly approached and assaulted her. Bystanders intervened, and Benton fled before being arrested by police shortly after.
The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
