GRiZ will be representing Detroit at this summer’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee.
The saxophone-playing DJ from Southfield was announced as one of the popular music festival’s headliners Tuesday, joining big-name national acts like the Strokes, Teddy Swims, Noah Kahan, Turnstile, and Kesha, among others.
GRiZ is scheduled to perform the Friday set at the festival, which is slated for June 11-14 in Manchester, Tennessee.
Other Michigan acts on the bill include pop-punk band Hot Mulligan and electronic duo Snow Strippers.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday at bonnaroo.com.
Born Grant Richard Kwiecinski, GRiZ has become a fixture at EDM-centric music festivals and is known for playing the sax live during his self-described “future-funk” sets.
In the meantime, his annual “12 Days of GRiZMAS” includes a number of Detroit area holiday happenings and performances, including a live jam at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday, Dec. 16; a DJ night at the Russell Industrial Center on Thursday, Dec. 18; and back-to-back concerts at the Masonic Temple on Friday, Dec. 19 and Saturday, Dec. 20.
A portion of proceeds from the 12 Days of GRiZMAS raises funds for afterschool and summer camp programs for local children.
