Doja Cat revealed she’s “struggling” with borderline personality disorder (BPD) while defending Chappell Roan in a TikTok video.
“I’ve learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I’m happy, to pretend that I don’t like stuff that I do, to appear like everything is okay,” said Doja Cat in her Friday TikTok video.
“I’ll get it done. And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I’m now struggling with BPD.”
The “Paint the Town Red” hitmaker, 30, told her followers that she’s been in therapy “for years now” and has been seeking help for her “agonizing condition” that she’s been dealing with “probably forever.”
“I am so relieved and so proud of myself. I’ve made it so far,” she said, adding that she still makes “mistakes”
“But it is like an eight-year process of curing, of treatment, of healing, in order to cure it,” she explained.
Borderline personality disorder is a “mental health condition that affects the way people feel about themselves and others, making it hard to function in everyday life,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
“It includes a pattern of unstable, intense relationships, as well as impulsiveness and an unhealthy way of seeing themselves. Impulsiveness involves having extreme emotions and acting or doing things without thinking about them first.”
Elsewhere in her TikTok video, Doja showed her support for Roan as she praised the artist’s ability to “be uncomfortable, comfortably in front of people, and protect herself and be honest” as she faces scrutiny for her recent run-ins with paparazzi.
“I had to learn how to be honest,” Doja Cat told her followers.
“I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life, and to see her sit there, and I love it.”
“I love that she can do that without hurting people,” she added. “She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself, and that shows that I can do the same.”
