The Milano Cortina Olympics have been full of amazing moments, including athletes achieving new Olympic records and historic feats.
Team USA‘s Elana Meyers Taylor was the latest to accomplish such a feat on Monday in the women’s monobob event. The 41-year-old achieved a time of 3:57.93 to finish in first place, claiming the gold medal ahead of Germany’s Laura Nolte, with her time of 3:57.97.
With Monday’s gold medal, Meyers Taylor tied Olympic legend Bonnie Blair as the most decorated Winter Olympian in Team USA history. Both Meyers Taylor and Blair won six medals in their Olympic careers.

However, Meyers Taylor also achieved history as the oldest American ever to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games.
Her Team USA teammate, Kaillie Armbuster Humphries, finished in third place with a time of 3:58.05 to win the bronze medal and add to the United States medal count.
The excitement over her significant milestone extended to social media. Meyers Taylor updated her Instagram Story with a slide featuring Team USA’s Instagram post about her gold-medal win.
“We did it everyone!!! WE!!!!” she wrote above her IG Story slide.
The original IG post racked up over 28,000 likes and numerous comments from friends and fans celebrating her historic achievement.
“Congrats @elanameyerstaylor!!!” Team USA speed skater Erin Jackson commented.
United States skier Mikaela Shiffrin commented with several emojis of faces holding back tears, along with the flexing arm muscle emoji.
“My hero!!!!!” wrote Olympic medalist Adam Rippon, including several crying face emojis.
“THATZ MY TEAM,!!!” wrote hip-hop star and Olympics personality Flavor Flav.
An Instagram video shows the 41-year-old Olympian being overcome by emotion after her incredible performance, clutching the American flag as she sheds tears.
Meyers Taylor has won a medal at each Winter Olympics she’s participated in since 2010. That included winning bronze with teammate Erin Pac at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, a silver at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with Lauryn Williams, and a silver with pusher Lauren Gibbs in the two-woman bobsleigh event at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics.
At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Meyers Taylor won a silver medal in monobob and a bronze medal in the two-woman bobsled event.
With her big win in Italy, she can now include Olympic gold medalist to her impressive list of achievements. After the two women won medals at Monday’s monobob event, the United States’ medal count is now 19, trailing Italy’s 23 and Norway’s 28 at the Milano Cortina Olympics.
