‘Every single cage is full’: Nearly 100 cats rescued from Rhode Island hoarding situation

Ninety-seven cats were rescued from a 1200-square foot-apartment in Woonsocket, RI, the shelter said.

Nearly 100 cats were rescued by the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Friday from a hoarding situation in a small Rhode Island apartment, said the shelter.

The RISPCA rescued 97 cats from a hoarding situation in an apartment in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, the organization said in a social media post.

The cats were living in a 1200-square-foot apartment, and the owner of the apartment asked for the shelter’s help, said the RISPCA.

“This is our largest hoarding case in years. Every single cage is full,” the organization wrote on Instagram.

According to the Instagram post, some of the female cats are pregnant and will likely give birth soon.

“Thankfully, most of them are in good shape and well fed,” the RISPCA said.

Due to the hoarding situation, some of the cats have “nasty colds” and are being treated for their illnesses, the shelter said.

The cats are undersocialized and some may not be adoptable for a while as they await vet care and behavioral assessments, the RISPCA said.

Due to the amount of supplies needed for the cats and the expenses of medical treatment, the shelter is asking for donations from their item wishlist or monetary donations via Venmo or PayPal.
