Luxury Homes
There’s a full mechanic’s garage with a professional car lift.
If living surrounded by your car collection is your dream, this Maine barndominium might be your dream home.
The house at 440 Blackstrap Road in Falmouth, Maine, is a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom home that sits on 4.4 acres. The house is a barn and workshop built in 1997 was converted four years ago into a 3,580-square-foot home that blends a palatial workshop and showroom with a living space. It’s listed at $2.95 million.

Climb the front steps by the front garage to the showroom, which currently combines a space to highlight a variety of vehicles with sitting and entertaining areas, complete with a bar and pool table. A level down is the basement, which functions as a full mechanic’s garage and working space with a professional car lift.
“You have a real shop. These car guys come through, and they freak out,” said Michelle Libby of CENTURY 21 North East, who has the listing. “It’s a working garage.”
“This space lends itself to somebody who loves motorcycles, or even boats. It’s set up and designed for this specific person and their passion. If there were an artist and you had an art studio there, you could have the second floor be the art gallery, and have the basement be the studio,” she added. “There are so many different ways to look at it.”

Back on the main floor, the stone exterior turret features a large curved bathroom on the inside with a big step-in shower. Head upstairs to the main living area, an open-concept space with a series of bright windows lining the wall under vaulted ceilings. Old bank doors frame the windows looking outside to the rolling lawn. A kitchen features stainless steel appliances, custom cabinetry, waterfall stone, and a long island with bar seating. If you climb another set of stairs from there, you’ll find another sitting area, which functions well as a peaceful office or work area.

Back on the main living floor, sliding doors lead out to a composite deck lined with wire; below is a bluestone patio with a 10-person hot tub.
Down the hallway, the primary bedroom features its own deck overlooking the sprawling yard, which fills with wildlife “on a daily basis,” said Libby. It features smart lighting, louvers, and shades. In the en-suite primary bath, there’s a full-size rainshower. It also has laundry.

There’s also plenty of space to land helicopters, which the owner’s friends frequently do. But like the many cars inside, they “do not come included,” said Libby.
