The disgraced Brigham and Women’s Hospital physician accused of performing unnecessary pelvic and breast examinations is facing new rape and indecent assault charges related to 11 more of his patients in Framingham, prosecutors said.
Derrick Todd, 52, was indicted on three counts of rape and 17 counts of indecent assault and battery related to 11 women aged 20 to 60 years old, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Thursday. Todd allegedly assaulted the 11 women between 2021 and 2023 while working as a rheumatologist and primary care physician at Charles River Medical Associates in Framingham
Todd was also a physician at Brigham and Women’s until 2023, when he agreed to stop practicing medicine amid a hospital investigation into his conduct. After the allegations came to light, some former patients filed multiple lawsuits and more than 200 patients have joined a class action suit.
In 2025, Todd was indicted on two counts of rape after he allegedly sexually assaulted two women while giving them medical examinations in December 2022 and June 2023 at Charles River Medical Associates in Framingham. That case is ongoing, the DA said, with the next court date later this month.
“The allegations are that the defendant in this case exploited his patients’ vulnerability and abused his position of trust as a medical professional,” Ryan said in a press release. “No person should have to fear for their safety when seeking medical treatment.”
What are the allegations against Todd?
Todd is accused of conducting medically unnecessary and “excessively prolonged” pelvic and breast examinations, which were performed under the guise of legitimate medical treatment, the DA said. Todd lacked appropriate training or certification for the examinations, which were allegedly “outside the accepted standards of medical care,” the DA’s office said.
One of the purported treatments during the assaults was pelvic floor therapy, which Todd was not qualified to perform, according to the DA.
The previous allegations filed by prosecutors last year also included that Todd repeatedly suggested a patient under pelvic floor therapy, and, after agreeing to a “demo,” he allegedly inserted his fingers into her vagina, Boston.com previously reported.
He was also accused of inserting a speculum into the patient’s vagina. When she realized the tool was too wide and screamed, saying she was in pain and begging him to stop, the previous allegations said, he “continued for approximately 15 minutes, during which time [the patient] asked several more times for him to ‘stop.’”
Todd is set to be arraigned on the new charges in Middlesex Superior Court next Wednesday.
