Roseanne Tellez is the latest casualty to surface in the massive turnover at Fox 32. Her contract wasn’t renewed weeks ago, a Fox spokesperson confirmed Friday to the Sun-Times.
The news of her departure comes one day after the station fired anchor Scott Schneider and executive producer Marissa Rubino.
Tellez had been with Fox 32 since 2019, when she assumed morning anchor duties on “Good Day Chicago.” She began in Chicago at WGN in 1990 during its superstation days, and she anchored from 1995 to 2004. She then moved to CBS 2, where she was a reporter and morning anchor for 15 years.
Schneider, who anchored the 5 and 9 p.m. newscasts, had been with the station for 10 years, and Rubino for almost seven. The Fox spokesperson confirmed their ousters, but sources were unaware of the reason for their dismissals. More departures aren’t expected.
“Marissa was an extremely hard-working and dedicated news producer who wore so many hats in the newsroom,” a source said. “It will be very hard to replace her.”
Fox 32 vice president of news content and programming Sean O’Heir has been working to remake the newsroom since taking the title in September. The station, which has struggled in the local ratings, hired four reporters and a producer in the last month.
Fox 32 is still without a lead sports anchor after Lou Canellis left for NBC 5 in late January. Cassie Carlson and Tina Nguyen appear to be sharing the role while the station seeks a potential hire. The job is not only in the nation’s third-largest market, but it comes with a programming agreement with the Bears through 2027.
In January, O’Heir told the Sun-Times that he’s planning for more local news and sports coverage on Fox Chicago+ (WPWR-Channel 50).
“More and more local programming, and I love all kinds of local sports,” O’Heir said then. “I’m going to put as much sports as I can on that channel, and in 2026, you’ll see more live local programming, sports and non-sports, on there.”
It aleady has been a volatile year for Chicago TV newscasts. NBC 5 fired sports anchor Mike Berman in January before hiring Canellis. Last month, WGN let go of nine on-air talents and several behind-the-scenes staffers as part of broadcaster Nexstar’s nationwide cuts. Now Fox 32 is making changes.
