After more than a century in Framingham, the beloved family-run bakery will close March 29.

After more than a 100 years in business, Framingham Baking Co. will close its doors on March 29, ending a family-run bakery legacy that began in 1917.

The bakery shared the news in a Facebook post Tuesday featuring a sign that read, “The End of an Era.” The owners expressed their gratitude, writing, “Joan, Ernie and Kathy thank our customers and employees for many years of memories.”

Founded by three Italian immigrant brothers, the bakery has long been a staple in Framingham’s Coburnville neighborhood. Over the years, it became especially known for its 18-square-slice sheet pizzas — offered in more than two dozen flavors — along with its bread, rolls, and desserts.

The reason for the closure wasn’t specified in the post, but the owners had previously suggested they were looking for someone to take over the business. In an October Facebook post, they wrote, “We welcome suggestions on how to improve our business or in interest in becoming the next stewards of our business.”

The closing announcement quickly drew hundreds of comments from customers sharing memories — and a lot of love for the bakery’s pizza.

“I can’t have a family party without your pizza,” one commenter wrote.

Another added: “Some of my best childhood memories are walking into the bakery with my grandparents… I can still smell the bread baking 40 years later and the taste of the one of a kind pizza.”

Others used the comment section to beg for the recipes to live on — with one person writing, “I really hope you make a cookbook or at least sell us the pizza recipe!”
