Frankie Muniz had a big day on Friday, just not entirely in the way he planned.
The actor was behind the wheel at Bristol Motor Speedway, competing in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series on Friday, April 10, which was notably the same day “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” premiered on Hulu.
But midway through the race, Muniz’s truck was caught up in a collision with fellow driver Tyler Reif, leaving his Ford F-150 (which happened to be plastered with “Life’s Still Unfair” advertisements) destroyed. Thankfully, both drivers walked away uninjured.
“I think [Reif] just maybe got impatient, I don’t know. He was yelling at me in there, saying I’m a lapper, like I shouldn’t be racing. I’m in the lucky dog position. I’m fighting,” he told reporters. “I belong on that racetrack just as much as he does, just as much as the leaders do. And I’m not going to back down on that.”
Despite the wreck, Muniz completed 115 laps, his best progress at Bristol yet, and was still in contention for the lead lap before the crash.
When a reporter pointed out the irony of the crash happening on premiere day, Muniz leaned into it: “Hopefully it got TV time, you know what I mean? Hopefully, people are going to watch the Malcolm in the Middle reboot right after this race!”
Friday’s wreck wasn’t Muniz’s first mishap on the race track. Earlier in 2025, he was caught up in a multi-truck crash at Daytona International Speedway, and then in August that same year, his season was cut short when he fell off a ladder while changing batteries in a Ring camera at his Arizona home, fracturing his wrist. He missed several races before returning at Talladega in October.
