Boston Red Sox
A pregame ceremony will honor the 1986 Red Sox.
It’s finally here, Sox fans.
After a brutal 1-5 road trip to start to the season, the Red Sox are back at what they hope is friendly Fenway Park for Friday afternoon’s home opener against the San Diego Padres.
Gates open at 12:10 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m., but the Red Sox ask that fans be in their seats by 1:30 p.m. for the start of a pregame ceremony.
The 1986 team will be honored on the 40th anniversary of the 1986 American League Championship, with nearly 25 members expected to be in attendance, including Tony Armas, Marty Barrett, Wade Boggs, Oil Can Boyd, Mike Brown, Steve Crawford, Pat Dodson, Dwight Evans, Rich Gedman, Bruce Hurst, Rene Lachemann, Tim Lollar, Spike Owen, Jim Rice, Ed Romero, Joe Sambito, Dave Sax, Calvin Schiraldi, Jeff Sellers, Bob Stanley, Mike Stenhouse, Marc Sullivan, Mike Trujillo, and Rob Woodward.
The colors will be presented by members of the Vermont Army National Guard, Massachusetts Army and Air Force National Guard from Hanscom Air Force Base.
A large American flag, in use since 2002, will be draped over the Green Monster during the national anthem, which will be performed by Boston native and Broadway actor Nik Walker.
The forecast calls for temperatures in the high 50s to low 60s as a warm front pushes north and warmer air makes its way into the region.

For those not attending, live coverage begins at noon on NESN and NESN 360, featuring a special two-hour pregame show with full coverage of the on-field ceremony.
Here is a preview.

Notes: This will be Sonny Gray’s second start with the Sox. He gave up three earned runs over four innings in a no-decision Saturday at Cincinnati. … The righthander is 4-0 with a 3.68 ERA in four career starts against San Diego, including wins in each of the last two seasons as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. … Rhode Island native and Boston College alum Michael King will get the start for the Padres. He allowed just one unearned run and one hit while striking out six in his season debut last Friday against the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision of a 5-2 Padres loss. … Friday will mark King’s fifth career start and 15th appearance against Boston. He is 3-4 with a 4.79 ERA in 35⅔ innings against the Red Sox. … The Padres also are off to a disappointing start at 2-4, but are coming off a convincing 7-1 victory Wednesday over their National League West rival, the San Francisco Giants. San Diego set season-high marks in both runs and hits (10). … Outfielder Ramon Laureano is 7-for-18 start with two home runs.
