High-end Italian marketplace, Greek restaurant, luxury shops to replace Neiman Marcus at Copley Place

The news comes directly after Saks Global announced it is closing its longtime Boston flagship.

Just as Saks Global revealed it will shutter Massachusetts’ lone Neiman Marcus amid bankruptcy proceedings, Copley Place moved quickly to announce what’s next: a high-end Italian marketplace, a Greek restaurant, and a lineup of luxury shops.

Simon, the real estate developer, said the multi-level space will be home to Casa Tua Cucina, a Miami-based Italian-style food marketplace, and Estiatorio Milos, a Greek seafood restaurant.

The space will also include luxury boutiques such as Dolce & Gabbana, expansions of FENDI and Tourneau, and the recently opened LOEWE.

Simon, which manages Copley Place, said that additional luxury boutiques will come to the space at a later date.

“Copley Place has always been Boston’s most exclusive luxury destination, located in the heart of the thriving Back Bay,” said Mark Silvestri, president of development at Simon, in a statement. “By introducing these globally recognized brands and iconic dining concepts, we’re taking an already exceptional experience to an entirely new level.”

Construction will begin later this year, and the project will have phased openings, including additional retail, dining, and wellness concepts, in 2028.

Neiman Marcus was one of the first flagship stores to open at Copley Place in 1984.

On Tuesday, its parent company, Saks Global, announced it will close the Neiman Marcus location at Copley Place as it reorganizes in bankruptcy court.

In the announcement, the company said it is refining the Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus store footprint to focus on profitable locations with the highest growth potential.

The Saks Fifth Avenue men’s store remains open in Copley Place, along with the women’s store at the Prudential Center.

Last week, the company announced it is also closing Saks OFF 5th locations at Assembly Row in Somerville and the Wrentham outlets.
