Authorities don’t yet know the circumstances leading up to the alleged attack, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said.
A Hudson man will face murder and assault charges Wednesday after prosecutors say he beat his grandmother to death with a skateboard, also wounding two other family members in the alleged attack.
Devin Dube, 29, carried out the purported assaults Tuesday afternoon in the Munson Street home he shared with his father, sister, and grandmother, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.
She told reporters Hudson police received a 911 call from the home at around 3:10 p.m., with Dube’s sister telling authorities he was attacking her with a skateboard. Moments later, another 911 caller indicated Dube had also attacked his grandmother, 90-year-old Elaine Dube.
Elaine Dube was rushed to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, where she died of her injuries. Devin Dube’s sister and father were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital, according to Ryan.
Devin Dube had allegedly fled by the time police arrived at the home, though officers tracked him down at a property on nearby Tower Street just 45 minutes later following another 911 call. Police found Dube hiding in a van on the property and arrested him without further incident, according to Ryan.
He will be arraigned Wednesday on charges of murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with serious injury on a person older than 60, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person older than 60. It was not immediately clear whether Dube had an attorney to speak on his behalf.
Hudson Chief of Police Richard DiPersio described the incident as a “senseless tragedy” but said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
“This was not a random act of violence,” he emphasized Wednesday.
Ryan said authorities don’t yet know the circumstances leading up to the alleged attack. Investigators were also working to locate the skateboard, she added.
“We do know that Mr. Dube had been in contact with the Hudson police on prior occasions, but never behavior of this level,” Ryan said, clarifying that police have had no “prior domestic interaction” with Dube.
