U.S. forces have rescued the second crew member from a fighter jet shot down over Iran, President Donald Trump said early Sunday, bringing a dramatic end to a high‑risk search‑and‑rescue operation that unfolded deep inside Iranian territory.
The airman, part of a two‑person crew aboard an F‑15E Strike Eagle downed on Friday, had been missing for more than a day as U.S. and Iranian forces searched rugged terrain in southwestern Iran. Trump announced the successful recovery in a post on Truth Social, writing “WE GOT HIM!” and saying the servicemember was injured but “SAFE and SOUND.”
“He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine,” the president wrote.
The shootdown marked the first confirmed loss of a U.S. manned fighter jet over Iranian territory since the current war began in late February, raising fears of further escalation as fighting intensifies across the region.
