UNC and NC State are looking for head coaches this spring. Will Wade left the Wolfpack after one season in Raleigh to rejoin LSU. The Tar Heels parted ways with Hubert Davis after losing to No. 11 seed VCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Per WRAL, Saint Louis head coach Josh Schertz told reporters that he was in communication with NC State this weekend, but the Wolfpack did not offer him a job.
“Saint Louis coach Josh Schertz confirmed to area reporters that he spoke with NC State on Saturday and said that no job offer was made. The plane was in St. Louis for about three hours.”

On Sunday, Jeff Borzello and Pete Thamel of ESPN provided an update on Schertz. He withdrew his name from the open vacancy with the ACC program.
“NEWS: Saint Louis head coach Josh Schertz has withdrawn his name from consideration for the NC State coaching vacancy, sources told me and @PeteThamel,” Borzello posted on X.
Schertz is a rising coach in college basketball, going 451-130 during his stints with Lincoln Memorial, Indiana State, and Saint Louis.
Saint Louis went 29-6 during the 2025-26 campaign. The No. 9 seed Billikens defeated No. 8 seed Georgia 102-77 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 19 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
Saint Louis ended its season with a 95-72 loss to No. 1 seed Michigan on March 21.
Schertz is 48-21 during his two seasons at Saint Louis. The head coach appears to be interested in potentially taking a job with a Power 4 program in the future.
