“The Boys” may be coming to an end, but Billy Butcher star Karl Urban is planning to stay busy. He’s set to star as Johnny Cage in the upcoming “Mortal Kombat II” movie, and he has an interest in playing more video game characters in the future.
“Red Dead Redemption” and its sequel “Red Dead Redemption 2” are often cited as two of the greatest stories told in video games. That’s led to a lot of fans hoping for an eventual movie or TV adaptation of the series. John Marston is the main playable character in the first game and also has an important role in the second.
If “Red Dead Redemption” gets an adaptation, Urban is hoping to play the outlaw looking to become a family man.
“I mean, come on, John Marston! I’d love to play that character,” Urban told Square Mile.

Urban is certainly too old to play the version of Marston that’s seen in “Red Dead Redemption 2.” Marston is 38 years old in the first game, so the 53-year-old Urban is likely too old for that version of the character, as well.
However, a “Red Dead Redemption” adaptation would likely tell a new story. The stories of those games are already very cinematic and well told. It’d be difficult to do a “The Last of Us” style adaptation.
Also, Rockstar hasn’t shown much interest in selling their IP to be made into movies or TV shows, so it’s more likely that “Red Dead’s” future is in the video game medium. That said, Urban would be a great fit in the universe playing any number of colorful characters.
