No one is more excited about Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin’s major league debut than his wife, Dendy.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, Dendy posted an aerial photo of the Pirates’ home PNC Park, where the MLB’s top-ranked prospect is slated to play in his first big-league game Friday, Pittsburgh’s home opener against the Orioles.
“Tomorrow!!!!” she captioned the post.
The Orioles called up 19-year-old Griffin on Thursday, the same day it was reported that the club is finalizing a nine-year, $140 million contract with the former first-round pick.
Should the pact be finalized, it would be the largest guarantee made to a player before their debut in the majors.
The Pirates enter Friday’s game against the Orioles at 3-3.
Pittsburgh opened its season on the road last Thursday to an 11-7 shellacking by the Mets at Citi Field, where reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes last two-thirds of an inning and gave up five runs.
Skenes, 23, will get a shot at redemption Saturday versus the Orioles.
It’s certainly been an exciting start to the year for Griffin, who married Dendy in January.
The couple, who announced their engagement in October 2025, ventured to Mexico ahead of spring training.
“I’ve witnessed Your faithfulness! Soaking in our 1st week of marriage,” Dendy captioned a series of Instagram snaps from the trip, to which Griffin replied, “I love you Mrs griffin.”
Skenes, just two years removed from his own MLB debut, previously lauded Griffin for how he goes about his business.
“Goes to church every Sunday, doesn’t cuss, doesn’t do any of that stuff, married at 19,” Skenes said in an ESPN profile published in February. “It’s not common, but nothing about him is common. Everything screams uncommon. And if you want to be uncommon, you want to do uncommon things, it starts with thinking uncommon — and he does that.”
The first pitch Friday is set for 4:12 p.m. ET.
