The ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ reboot is soon heading to Hulu.
Almost two decades after the first beloved sitcom aired, “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” brings back much of the core cast, with the original writers also returning behind the scenes.
Now a dad, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) lives with his daughter Leah (Keeley Karsten) and girlfriend Tristan (Kiana Madeira). He’s estranged from his chaotic wider family, who traumatized him across seven seasons and 151 episodes, running Jan. 9, 2000, to May 14, 2006.
However, when his parents Hal and Lois invite (or more accurately demand) him to attend their 40th wedding anniversary, he’s forced to introduce his lovely new family to his hugely embarrassing old one.
The reboot was formally announced in December 2024, with Muniz reprising his role opposite Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, who step back into the shoes of his parents. Later, more of the cast were confirmed, including Christopher Masterson as the oldest sibling Francis, Emy Coligado as Francis’ wife Piama, and Justin Berfield as Reese.
Ken Kwapis, who directed 19 episodes of the original series, also helms all four episodes of the miniseries. He’s not the only “Malcolm in the Middle” veteran back on board. Alongside him are returning writers Alan J. Higgins, Michael Glouberman, Matthew Carlson, and Gary Murphy, suggesting a similar tone to the original series.
