A Metra BNSF train struck and killed a pedestrian in suburban Westmont on Tuesday morning, halting trains for nearly three hours in the west suburbs.
Outbound train no. 1207 struck the person shortly after 7 a.m. in a crossing at Cass Avenue, according to agency spokeswoman Meg Reile.
The Westmont Fire Department arrived and the person was pronounced dead at the scene, the Village of Westmont said in a statement.
The Cass Avenue railroad crossing and Burlington Avenue were reopened by 9:52 a.m., the village said.
The incident was being investigated by Metra police, the village said.
