All Metra trains were operating on reduced schedules due to the extreme cold conditions throughout the Chicago area Friday.
In general, the level of service on most lines will be similar to the service offered on weekends, Metra officials said. Riders are advised to check their line’s schedule on Metra’s website.
The schedules are designed to provide adequate service for the predicted ridership and will also reduce the number of moves through railroad switch points, thereby minimizing opportunities for service disruptions, officials said.
Travel times will increase due to speed restrictions that can reduce maximum speeds for Metra trains when temperatures drop below zero and additional schedule changes may be made depending on the conditions, Metra said.
Extra Metra personnel will be available for any mechanical and track issues.
CTA was reporting normal service across all lines.
