NBA makes big Luka Doncic announcement before Lakers-Suns

Luka Doncic has been named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week, the NBA announced on Monday.

The reveal is far from a surprise, considering Doncic has been on quite the tear as of late.

Over the three games the Lakers played last week, Doncic produced 37.3 points per game. He averaged a double-double by dishing out 10.3 assists per game. He was nearly knocking out a triple-double on average, coming down with 8.7 rebounds per game.

Throughout that stretch, the Lakers collected victories over the Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, and the New Orleans Pelicans.

During Sunday night’s action against the Pelicans, Doncic checked in for 35 minutes. He scored 34 points on 40 percent shooting from the field. He also had 12 rebounds and seven assists. The Lakers advanced to 12-3 with Doncic in the lineup by defeating the Pelicans 133-121.

Doncic shares the Player of the Week spotlight with the New York Knicks guard, Jalen Brunson. Last week, the Knicks took part in a four-game slate. Brunson posted averages of 28.8 points and 4.5 assists per game.

The Lakers remain red-hot throughout the start of the season this year. With their win over the Pelicans, they have advanced to 15-4 on the year. They are only trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder, who hold an impressive four-game lead over the Lakers.

This season, Doncic has appeared in 15 games for the Lakers. He is leading the NBA in points per game, averaging 35.1 throughout his first stretch. He is shooting 47 percent from the field and 33 percent from three.

Along with his scoring, Doncic has averaged 9.2 assists and 8.7 rebounds per game. So far, he’s on pace to have a career year, which will undoubtedly land him in All-Star contention and even the league’s MVP race.

On Monday, Doncic and the Lakers will be back on the court for a matchup against the Phoenix Suns. The two teams will tip off at 10 PM ET.
