‘Is This Thing On?’ (2025)

Bradley Cooper directs his pal Will Arnett in a rare leading man role in this comedy-drama, about a man on the brink of divorce who turns to stand-up comedy to process his feelings. If you’ve been to an open mic, there are a lot of guys like this, most of whom would benefit from a therapist instead of hostile audiences. But Arnett’s Alex is not only pretty good at standup, he also begins to realize between punchlines that his relationship with his wife (Laura Dern) might be salvageable after all.

How to watch: “Is This Thing On?” is streaming on Disney+.

‘Lone Wolf McQuade’ (1983)

Chuck Norris, who died Thursday at age 86, was a prolific action star for decades before the internet turned his general badassery into a meme. The star of “Walker, Texas Ranger” had real martial arts bonafides, facing off against Bruce Lee in “The Way of the Dragon,” earning numerous championships, and even inventing his own karate style. The exemplar of his many Westerns was this 1983 title, in which Norris plays (surprise!) a Texas Ranger who hunts down drug traffickers and kidnappers.

How to watch: “Lone Wolf McQuade” is streaming on Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex, Prime Video and YouTube.

‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’ (2026)

Set in 1940 Birmingham amidst World War II, the film follow-up to the successful series “Peaky Blinders” features Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) pondering his legacy and his regrets. At least initially, anyway. Not long after, Tommy returns from a self-imposed exile to face the real-life threat posed by the Nazis flooding the streets with counterfeit money, aided by Tommy’s son, Duke (Barry Keoghan).

How to watch: “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man” is streaming on Netflix.

New TV Shows Streaming

‘Born to Bowl’ (2026)

It’s not the 1970s anymore, which means that professional bowling is not aired weekly on network television or minting champions whose career earnings rival those of the NHL or NBA. But there are still plenty of characters that make the sport intriguing, many of whom are the subjects of this docuseries. Liev Schreiber’s narration belies both a fondness and a level of amusement with the eccentrics at the top of the field, all of whom are fascinating to watch.

‘Jury Duty: Company Retreat’

I’m a sucker for hidden camera comedy, whether it’s “The Eric Andre Show,” “The Rehearsal,” or the first season of “Jury Duty,” in which juror Ronald Gladden was the only real person in a trial where the judge, jurors, lawyers, and bailiffs were all professional actors. The second season takes place at a company retreat, where a temp worker named Anthony Norman, helping with the event, is the only real person. Just like Season 1, the improvisers are hilarious, but the heart of the show is Anthony.

How to watch: “Jury Duty: Company Retreat” is streaming on Prime Video.
