The New York Giants have been searching for a new head coach since deciding to move on from Brian Daboll earlier this season.
Moving on from Daboll was a move that many wanted to see. However, it was still somewhat of a surprise due to his close relationship with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. While the Giants haven’t been good from a record perspective this season, they are a lot closer to competing for a spot in the playoffs than they are from continuing to be one of the worst teams by record.
With that being said, New York will need to make the right choice for its next head coach in order to make that happen.

Plenty of names have been brought up as potential targets for the Giants. However, there is a new name who has been mentioned that would be a major surprise hire for New York.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler has suggested that current Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski could be the right man for the job. What makes it surprising is that the Browns have not fired Stefanski and there are many who believe that he’ll be back in 2026.
“Stefanski might be the strongest retread candidate in the eyes of many,” Fowler reported. “The Giants would be an ideal fit. And trades of any kind are never off the table in Cleveland, but it’d be tricky trying to trade a coach who’s 7-26 over the past two years.”
Stefanski’s job status in Cleveland has been called into question over the last couple of years. Once again this season, the Browns are one of the worst teams in the NFL heading into the final week of the season and hold a 4-12 record.
Since taking over as the head coach in Cleveland back in 2020, Stefanski has led the franchise to a 44-56 record. He has made the playoffs in two of his six seasons with the team.

It’s possible that the Browns could move on from Stefanski after the 2025 NFL season comes to a close. Should that happen, it would not be surprising to see the Giants swoop in with interest in hiring him.
Expect to continue hearing a lot of rumors about New York’s coaching search. Stefanski has now become a name worth keeping a close eye on as the season comes to a close.
