The defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes were 9.5-point favorites heading into their College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup against the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes Wednesday night.
But that didn’t matter to Miami defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, who called arguably the best game of his career as the Hurricanes dominated Ohio State for three quarters in the Cotton Bowl Classic en route to a 24-14 upset.
Miami sacked Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin five times, including two from Akheem Mesidor and one from projected top-10 NFL draft pick Ruben Bain.

Having their season end two games shy of the national championship game stung more than enough for Ohio State fans, but minutes after the game ended, they were dealt another disheartening blow when one former four-star recruit immediately hit the transfer portal.
“BREAKING: Ohio State TE Jelani Thurman plans to enter the @TransferPortal, his agent tells @On3Sports. The 6’6 250 TE appeared in 21 games in his time with the Buckeyes. He’ll have 2 years of eligibility left,” On3’s Hayes Fawcet wrote on X.

Thurman, a 6-foot-6 junior who was the No. 3-ranked tight end and No. 70 overall recruit in the class of 2023, caught just seven passes for 84 yards and a touchdown this season.
He’s just the second Buckeyes player to hit the transfer portal this year, joining junior wide receiver Bryson Rodgers, also a former four-star recruit.
In three years in Columbus, Therman totaled just 13 receptions, 144 yards, and two scores. Purdue transfer Max Klare led all OSU tight ends with 43 catches, 448 yards, and two touchdowns this year.
