A pilot who died Sunday in a Provincetown plane crash has been identified, according to prosecutors.

Christopher Burroughs, 60, of Attleboro, was killed when the private plane he was piloting crashed and caught fire at the Provincetown Municipal Airport. Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois announced in a statement Wednesday that Burroughs was the sole victim in the “devastating accident.”

Massachusetts State Police detectives were notified of the crash shortly before 4 p.m., according to the DA’s office. When emergency responders arrived, they found the plane “fully engulfed” in flames.

Burroughs was still inside the plane, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, the DA’s office said. The cause of the crash has not been confirmed, but the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
