Private plane skids off runway at Teterboro Airport, shutting it down for an hour

A private plane skidded off the runway at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey Monday night, shutting down operations for about an hour, according to officials.

The Learjet 60, a midsize business-class jet, overran the runway and came to a stop after going into a bed of collapsible concrete blocks, known as an Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS), at the end of runway 24 around 6:30 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Port Authority’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting unit responded to the incident. Six people were onboard the plane but there were no injuries.

Airport operations were suspended after the incident until Runway 24 reopened at 7:30 p.m., a Port Authority spokesperson said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the plane to overshoot the runway.
