Police look to identify owners of 2 dogs found dead on South Shore

“We simply hope to locate the owner and provide them with closure,” police said.

Police are searching for the owners of two dogs that were found dead this past week in Weymouth, police said.

The two dogs were discovered one day apart from one another, starting with the discovery of a small white “Terrier-type” on Sunday, Weymouth police said in a Facebook post.

The dog was found on the shoreline of Whitmans Pond, near the Middle Street gazebo, police said.

The terrier-mix had no collar, tags, or microchip, but was wearing a flea and tick repellant collar, local Animal Control said.

The death did not raise suspicion, and police “simply hope to locate the owner and provide them with closure,” authorities wrote.

However, the next day, a “medium-sized, black and white Pitbull mix” was found dead wrapped in a plastic bag alongside a shoreline near Weymouth’s Lakeshore Road, police said.

“The circumstances surrounding this dog’s recovery are considered suspicious, and we are actively seeking information from the public,” police said.

Animal control officers are asking anyone who owned a dog or knows anyone who has recently lost a dog matching the descriptions to contact their office at 781-660-3707.
