Police: Man killed in Lowell apartment complex shooting

Investigators say the shooting happened after an altercation between two armed men.

Lowell police are investigating a fatal shooting at an apartment complex on Friday afternoon, officials said.

The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. at a residence on Pawtucket Boulevard, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Early information suggests the shooting followed a brief altercation between two men who knew each other from the building, according to officials.

Both men were allegedly armed during the confrontation, according to the DA’s office.

One of the men suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The second man remained at the scene. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

No additional details were immediately available.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Middlesex DA’s Office, Massachusetts State Police detectives, and the Lowell Police Department.
