Selected bags of Frito-Lay potato chips have been voluntarily recalled across six states, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which, in its official announcement, posted on March 4, 2026, warns that the affected chips could pose the “risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they’re consumed.
Details About the Recalled Potato Chips
Frito-Lay has recalled select 8-ounce bags of Miss Vickie’s “Spicy Dill Pickle” potato chips after discovering some packets might contain jalapeño-flavored chips that contain undeclared milk, which could pose a serious or life-threatening risk to people with related allergies.
Under U.S. law, the FDA recognizes nine “major food allergens” that must be clearly disclosed on packaged food labels because they account for the vast majority of serious and life‑threatening allergic reactions in the United States. These are:
- Milk
- Eggs
- Fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod)
- Crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, shrimp)
- Tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pecans)
- Peanuts
- Wheat
- Soybeans
- Sesame
The chips were distributed beginning January 15, 2026, to grocery, convenience, and drug stores, alongside local retailers across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, according to the FDA notice.
Frito-Lay identified the issue after a consumer contacted them, but at the time of publishing, there have been no reported allergic reactions.
The FDA announcement confirms that “No other Miss Vickie’s products, sizes, or flavors are recalled, including bags in Variety Packs.”
How to Identify the Affected Bags of Chips
The chips are branded “Miss Vickie’s” and labeled “Spicy Dill Pickle” on the front of each 8-ounce bag.
The contaminated bags of chips carry the UPC 0 28400 761772 on the back and a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of April 21, 2026, printed on the front, right-hand side of each bag.
The impacted packets also include one of the two nine-digit manufacturing codes: Either 38U301414 or 48U101514.
What Consumers Should Do Now
The FDA has advised consumers to check both the “Guaranteed Fresh” date and the manufacturing code to determine whether a bag is included in the recall.
Consumers who have the recalled product and who are allergic or sensitive to milk should not consume it and should discard it immediately.
For additional questions, support, or reimbursement options, consumers can contact Miss Vickie’s via the brand’s “Contact Us” page or call 1-877-984-2543 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday.
Frito-Lay notified the FDA about the recall, and the agency will classify it at a later date, but the FDA has stated that this does not change the guidance issued to consumers.
How This Recall Fits Into Recent FDA Alerts
The FDA’s Recalls, Market Withdrawals & Safety Alerts page lists the Miss Vickie’s action on March 4, 2026, under Food & Beverages for undeclared milk. The page compiles recall information for FDA-regulated products and maintains postings for three years before archiving. Recent listings span food allergens, foodborne illness risks, and pet food advisories, providing consumers a centralized reference for safety updates.
Recall Timeline and Scope
According to the company’s announcement posted by the FDA, distribution of the affected Miss Vickie’s chips may have begun as early as January 15, 2026. The voluntary recall was announced by Frito-Lay on March 3, 2026, and posted by the FDA on March 4, 2026. The scope is limited to specific 8-ounce bags in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, and does not include other Miss Vickie’s flavors, sizes, or variety packs.
