State Police Trooper Michael Gagnon was relieved of duty and suspended without pay.
A Massachusetts State Police trooper arrested last week is facing charges related to a domestic assault on a child, local police said.
State Trooper Michael Gagnon, of Plympton, was arrested Nov. 25 and was arraigned on charges of domestic assault and battery and aggravated assault on a child under 14 years of age, according to Plympton police.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the State Police said Gagnon was relieved of duty and suspended without pay.
“The Massachusetts State Police stands firmly against all forms of domestic violence,” the spokesperson said. “We will follow the court proceedings as part of our ongoing personnel investigation and await the outcome of that process.”
Gagnon’s arrest came after an investigation by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office, the Department of Children and Families, and the Plympton police. He was arrested at his home in Plympton without incident.
Gagnon pleaded not guilty in Plymouth District Court and was released on bail, which was set at $1,000. He was ordered to have no contact with a person named in court documents.
Daniel Moynihan, Gagnon’s lawyer, said the trooper “denies the veracity of the allegations against him.”
