Stephen Curry has spent the entirety of his career playing for only the Golden State Warriors, and it’s been a successful venture for him and the team, with numerous accolades, including two NBA MVP awards and four championships.
That seems to lend itself to him remaining in the golden yellow and blue Warriors gear until the day he retires, since his legendary career will forever be linked to the franchise. However, he recently responded to the idea that he might join another team he has a bit of a connection to: the Charlotte Hornets.
Curry grew up in Charlotte and played his high school and college basketball in North Carolina. That included his appearance in the NCAA Tournament with Davidson, where he wowed fans with his performances before taking his talents to the professional league.
His father, Dell Curry, played for the Hornets, and the franchise recently retired his jersey number. The younger Curry got to witness the event, and naturally, that brought up questions about his future.

Seth Curry previously suited up for the Hornets last season before joining his brother on Golden State this season. That prompted Dashawn Brown from WSOC-TV in Charlotte to ask about the possibility Steph would also play in the teal and white uniform for at least one season.
“Always keep your options open,” Curry told Brown. “Like you said, I know what that means when you get your jersey retired, it’s immortalized, nobody should be able to touch it, but I’m sure he would be able to make a special exception if that were the case.”
Curry previously teased the notion of playing for the Hornets in 2022 when Charlotte presented him with a key to the city.
“Everybody asks me, ‘You wanna play one year for the Hornets and come back?’ … I am not breaking any news right now, I’m not making any promises,” Curry said.
“All I would say is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that would be it,” he said at the time.
After over 16 magical years with Golden State, it’s unclear how many more Curry has left in the tank. The 38-year-old has been sidelined for a significant number of the Warriors’ games since early February, due to a right knee injury he’s performing rehabilitation for.
With Jimmy Butler also out due to his season-ending injury, the Warriors have relied on performances from other players, including Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos, and Deanthony Melton.
Still, the Warriors have struggled lately, losing eight of their last 10 games. They seem optimistic that Curry could return before the end of the month and are hoping to be in contention for the playoffs in one of the Western Conference play-in games.
