Animal lovers are in tears at how a beloved pet dog tells his owners he’s ready for the day to be over.
Harry the kelpie dog lives in Australia with his owner, Bridie, who regularly takes him on sun-soaked adventures to the beach, on long car rides, and ensures he wants for nothing.
But all these adventures can tucker a dog out, and Harry has figured out a way to make sure he gets plenty of rest: by tucking himself in at night.
Bridie told Newsweek: “We adopted him when he was just three months old. he’s been surrendered from a farm after getting in an accident, and only has one eye because of it! But that doesn’t bother him—he’s a very happy boy, but sometimes bumps into things on his blind side.”
She added that Harry is “the light of our lives—everyone who meets him loves him.”
“You wouldn’t know he was meant to be working on a farm all day,” she said. “His favorite place to be is cuddled up on our bed next to us.”
In a video to Bridie’s TikTok account, @bridieheartharry on March 10, she explained: “Every night our dog creeps away to sleep on our bed when he’s had enough for the day, so we filmed it over a week.”
It shows Bridie creeping quietly into the bedroom, where Harry is lying on the bed, his tail wagging slowly as he cuddles up with a soft toy.
The following night, Harry’s owners both walk into the room, this time in darkness, and when they switch on the light, Harry is on the bed looking at them, and flops onto his back with his tail wagging, as though looking for belly rubs.
Each night, as Harry’s owners walk into the bedroom, he’s already there: sometimes with a cuddly toy, sometimes snuggled into the pillows, sometimes wagging his tail in greeting, and other times already fast asleep.
TikTok users were obsessed, awarding the video close to 100,000 likes, as one moved commenter declared: “I’m so glad you filmed this. What a beautiful dog and a smart way for him to decompress. Lovely.”
“That’s a dog that knows their boundaries and feels comfortable,” another praised, as one joked: “I also creep away to bed when I’ve had enough for the day.”
And as one asked if Harry brings “his toys with him to your bed,” Bridie explained: “They are our soft teddies! But he’s made them his own.”
Harry is an Australian kelpie, noted by the American Kennel Club as being an alert, loyal and intelligent companion, originally bred for herding in the harsh heat of Australia.
The AKC describes the breed as being eager and with unlimited energy—but for Harry at least, he enjoys retiring at the end of the day.
On her account, Bridie introduces followers to Harry as a one-eyed rescue dog, who she adopted at three months old and has worked to give the best life to.
