Telegraph Canyon Road in Chula Vista will be closed during overnight hours this week for construction along I-805, according to state transportation officials.
Caltrans will close eastbound and westbound lanes from Nacion Avenue to Halecrest Drive Monday through Thursday from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., the agency said in a statement.
Motorists traveling eastbound on Telegraph Canyon Road will be detoured by turning right on Melrose Avenue, left on Palomar Street, then left on Oleander Avenue to Telegraph Canyon Road, while motorists traveling westbound will be detoured by turning left on Oleander Avenue, right on Palomar Street, then right on Melrose Avenue to Telegraph Canyon Road.
“Nearby residents and businesses can expect nighttime construction lights, dust and noise from equipment and vehicle back-up alarms required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration,” the statement said. “Drivers are encouraged to slow down and move over for highway workers and law enforcement, give themselves more time, and anticipate travel delays or consider taking an alternate route to reach their destination while these closures are in place.”
Crews will work to minimize noise and impacts to all nearby communities as much as possible, Caltrans said.
The work is part of a $33 million project to improve the transportation infrastructure in South County, including bridge safety improvements, sound walls and auxiliary lanes along a four-mile segment of I- 805 from East Palomar Street in Chula Vista to state Route 54 in National City.
Sound walls along the route and bridge safety improvements at Telegraph Canyon Road and East Naples Street are expected to be completed by late 2026.
