Cody Rhodes has issued a special request for his peers regarding his eventual funeral: he wants them to attend in their full wrestling gear. The undisputed WWE Champion revealed this unique wish during a recent interview that took place in a rather macabre setting.
During his appearance on Grave Conversations, Rhodes expressed his deep love for DC Comics and the concept of kayfabe. Speaking to David Dastmalchian, known for his role in Late Night with the Devil, Rhodes referenced a specific comic book arc that sparked his imagination.
Identity Crisis Inspiration
Rhodes brought up the DC story Identity Crisis, where a group of heroes attend a funeral while wearing their full costumes. This visual left a lasting impact on the “American Nightmare,” leading him to desire a similar aesthetic for his own final farewell.
“(It had) one of the greatest funeral scenes of all time because all of them showed up in gimmick, full gear,” Rhodes said. “When my time comes, I want the wrestling world in full gimmick.”

Bury Me A Superhero
Rhodes went into specific detail about what he wants to be wearing himself. He cited his custom robe made by legendary seamstress Sandra Grey as his chosen burial attire.
“Bury me in the American Nightmare Sandra Grey robe,” Rhodes said. “Bury me as I was. I spent so much time giving back to pro wrestling and taking from pro wrestling and loving that I got to play a superhero. I’d like to go out a superhero.”
The entire conversation between Rhodes and Dastmalchian took place while both men lay down in open caskets. This visual choice made the discussion about mortality and funeral arrangements even more appropriate.
