Ever since Tom Brady retired from the NFL for the second time, fans and media members alike have fantasized about another miracle comeback.
He’s stayed as close to the game as possible, serving as an analyst while somehow being a minority owner and being a flag football ambassador for Fanatics.
He stirred the pot again when he revealed that he had inquired about potentially coming back but faced some pushback from the league. That shows he’s still got that itch to play.
However, that’s only possible if he does something he may not be willing to do. Per NFL insider Mike Florio, :
“Either way, Brady knows he can’t play unless he sells his piece of the Raiders. Given that he got it at a reduced price (and presumably would have to offer it back to majority owner Mark Davis at a refund in lieu of flipping it on the open market), Brady is choosing to keep his piece of the team and to stay on the sidelines. Except when the time comes to play flag football again,” Florio wrote.
There have been conflicting reports about Brady’s actual role with the Raiders. Alex Guerrero, his personal trainer and business partner, is reportedly his eyes and ears in the organization, and he played a role in their last two head-coaching searches.
However, he claims to have more of a passive role with the team, so the truth perhaps is somewhere in between. That said, Brady is a winner, but he’s a competitor first.
He wants to have it and do it all because he legitimately believes he can excel at everything. That’s why he’s never going to go down without a fight, and if he’s ever truly interested in coming back, he’ll do whatever it takes to ensure he doesn’t have to give up anything.
