We are through the first 10 games of the 2026 MLB season.
Although no team has had a drastically terrible start that they can’t climb out of, saying everyone has a shot at the World Series wouldn’t be fun, right?
So, after the first two weeks of the season, it’s time to knock down the list of contenders from 30 to 27.
Here are my three MLB teams that I don’t believe have a shot of lifting the Commissioner’s Trophy this year.

I like this White Sox team. Munetaka Murakami has a chance to have a batting average around .200 and still knock in over 40 home runs. They’re going to get one of the best shortstop prospects in ages with UCLA’s Roch Cholowsky.
The future is bright for the White Sox. This year, though? Enjoy Murakami’s bombs and start hyping up Cholowsky as the one who was promised.
It feels like the Nationals cursed themselves to win their World Series title in 2019. For that one championship, they’d forever be trapped in a forever rebuild, where it seems like they’re continually rebuilding year after year, with no end in sight.
What is James Wood? Is he a future National League MVP candidate, or is he the type of boom-or-bust player that can be an asset on a winning team but not the player you build around to make a deep run in the postseason?
Not the Sacramento Athletics. Not the future Las Vegas Athletics. Not the old Oakland Athletics. They want to be referred to as simply the Athletics.
And the Athletics might have one of the most exciting rosters for the future, with a slew of hitters who could be stars in this league, but lackluster pitching and inconsistent performance throughout that young lineup make it impossible to see them as a legitimate contender.
Also, under no circumstances would the MLB ever want a team without a city attached to it anywhere near the World Series. Sorry, Sacramento, you deserve better.
