WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) – Three Massachusetts state troopers, including Sgt. Jennifer Penton and Troopers Edwin Rodriguez, David Montanez, appeared in court in Worcester Thursday afternoon, in connection to the death of recruit Enrique Delgado-Garcia.
All are charged with involuntary manslaughter and causing serious bodily injuries. They all pleaded not guilty.
In September of 2024, Delgado-Garcia became unresponsive during a defensive training exercise at the academy, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
The academy’s onsite medical team responded to the scene and Delgado-Garcia was taken to the hospital, where he later died, police said.
Delgado-Garcia’s autopsy revealed he died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head and a neck fracture, according to attorneys for his family.
