Cool temperatures on Saturday expected to be pushed out by Sunday’s warm, windy weather

Chicagoans will need to gear up for varying weather throughout the weekend, as cooler temperatures on Saturday give way to a warm, windy Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will likely remain relatively low on Saturday, with a high of 47 degrees downtown. Those in the suburbs may enjoy a bit more warmth with temperatures reaching high 50s and low 60s. Though weather is expected to stay mild throughout the day, some showers may pass by in the evening and through the night.

Sunday will bring a twist. Temperatures will reach the low 70s near the lakefront and close to 80 degrees southwest of the metro area, but high temperatures will be dampened by winds gusting as high as around 40 mph and storms possibly rolling during the evening through the night.

Meteorologist Kevin Doom said Sunday is probably not a day for enjoying shore, given the high winds and low temperatures of the lake.

“Everybody has a different taste, but in my opinion, I wouldn’t want to be at the beach,” Doom said.

Doom added he does not expect the high winds to significantly affect travel times at O’Hare International Airport.

“Given the direction and the wind speeds, the airport should be able to mitigate those impacts pretty well, but it’s certainly possible.” Doom said. “Maybe they can slow down the arrival or departure rate a little bit.”
