Whenever a star player is rumored to be on the trade block, the New York Yankees are typically involved in the conversation.
And while the San Diego Padres might not be shopping Fernando Tatis Jr. per se, several teams have shown interest in trading for the 27-year-old outfielder, including the Yankees.
But what exactly would it take to pry away a three-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger, two-time gold glove winner, two-time All-MLB first-team selection, and former NL home run leader?
Sports Illustrated’s Ryan Shea believes it would take a package of multiple Yankees’ top prospects including 2025 top prospect Jasson Dominguez and outfielder Spencer Jones (No. 6 prospect) plus relief pitcher Clarke Schmidt and utility infielder Oswaldo Cabrera to land Tatis Jr.
San Diego could also ask for a top pitching prospect like Carlos Lagrange (No. 2 prospect) or Elmer Rodriguez (No. 3 prospect) as a sweetener.
If the Yankees were to acquire the 27-year-old superstar, he would be a welcomed addition to their lineup.
A five-tool player with elite power, speed, and ability to get on base, Tatis Jr. is the kind of player who can produce plenty of hits, home runs and RBIs with a high batting average and steal a lot of bases.
And given that he can play both the infield and outfield, New York could plug Tatis Jr. in anywhere and he’d likely be an immediate contributor at the plate and in the field.
