SAN FRANCISCO (BCN/KRON) — A woman died after being shot Tuesday night in San Francisco’s Sunset District, according to police.
Around 10:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Santiago Street and 22nd Avenue. A man, who was not immediately identified, allegedly shot a woman, killing her.
Nearby residents looked on from a distance as their usually quiet neighborhood was flooded with numerous police cars and fire trucks. Police set up crime scene tape around what appeared to be a pool of blood on the sidewalk.
The male suspect is in custody, police said.
There have been at least 10 homicides in San Francisco in the first three months of 2026, according to police records. That’s a 150% increase compared to the same time frame last year. SFPD notes a 20% drop in homicides in 2025, with 28 in total, the lowest number since 1954.
