SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — A proposal is on the table that would bring more affordable housing and a brand new Safeway grocery store to San Francisco’s Marina neighborhood.
Align Real Estate has filed plans to develop a unique 25-story apartment complex at the site where a well-known and iconic Safeway currently stands.

The Marina Safeway has been known as a place for singles to meeting since the ’70s.
The developer says it would include a new Safeway, along with nearly 800 homes along Marina Boulevard next to Fort Mason.
Eighty-six of the units would be designated as affordable housing.

Just last month, it was announced that the same developer was planning a similar developments at a Bernal Heights Safeway.
