LIVE: Public memorial for legendary football coach John Beam being held in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — A public memorial for legendary football coach John Beam is set to take place in Oakland on Wednesday.

He was shot and killed last month at Laney College in Oakland.

Community members will gather for a “light the path, light the field” walk honoring his legacy.

That’s the path beam often walked himself on campus.

A memorial starts at 4 p.m.

There will then be a walk from the Laney College Bistro, to the Eagles Football Stadium.

The man accused of killing Beam is due back in court next week.
