ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) — Fire officials are responding to a gas leak in Alameda on Wednesday.
The gas leak at 5th and Pacific was caused by a third party construction crew, according to PG&E, saying “this incident is a third party dig in.”
Officials first responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m.
Crews are evacuating the area including students at Island High School and Alameda Child Development Center, according to Alameda Unified High School District.
PG&E was notified and is now at the scene. PG&E will determine what repairs are needed and how to stop the flow of gas.
There is a shelter in place, but the exact location is unknown at this time.
PG&E is reminding people to call 811 for any size digging projects.
