Plenty of Miami will be feasting on lechón, or pork, this holiday season—but it won’t be this lucky porker.
In a tradition unique to South Florida, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will be at Latin Cafe 2000 in Brickell on Tuesday to pardon a pig, allowing it to “enjoy a long, peaceful life far from the holiday roasting pan.”
The piggy in question? A lucky animal named 6-7.
The tradition is in its 8th year, and according to a news release, will give 6-7 a “get out of caja china [roasting box] free” card.
“This beloved annual event blends humor, heritage, and heart, celebrating Miami’s deep-rooted lechón culture while highlighting compassion during the holiday season,” the county said in a news release.
The ceremony is free and open to the public, and guests will be treated to freshly brewed cafecito and spinach croquetas.
