This holiday season, Broward County’s African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) is bringing the magic with its “Soulful Christmas” weekend celebration.
The two-day event transforms the center into a tropical winter wonderland filled with music, art and holiday cheer.
The festivities begin Friday evening with a free, high-energy holiday concert featuring talented local vocalists performing reimagined seasonal classics. Organizers say the show honors the history and spirit of Fort Lauderdale’s Sistrunk community, the city’s oldest African American neighborhood.
The celebration continues Saturday with Community Day, offering storytelling, dance, hands-on crafts and photos with Santa. Families can also enjoy LEGO ornament making, live performances and holiday art activities for all ages.
“We want to meet the needs of the community,” says Aneatra King, the senior community library manager “Our mission has expanded. We want to celebrate the holidays, celebrate the community, and bring everyone together—to just be as one.”
The event is free and sponsored by local organizations dedicated to celebrating culture and community unity.
AARLCC hopes “Soulful Christmas” will become a beloved holiday tradition for generations in Broward County.
