November 22 is a day Lashundia Jackson says she can’t forget.
“Empty, hurt, pain,” Jackson said.
Four people tried to force their way into a home in southwest Miami-Dade last month when the homeowner shot and killed one of them, investigators said. Jackson identified her son Quanterry Whitley as the man who died.
“No matter what he did, the one thing I know he didn’t do is a home invasion,” Jackson said.
Jackson is Whitley’s biological mom, but said her son was blessed to have two mothers.
“There was another woman who helped raise him, and her name is Ms. Claudette Whitley, but she never kept me from access from him,” Jackson said.
Whitley was a father to three children. Jackson claims her son was searching for help the night he was shot. She went to the home to talk with the man who shot her son, and to also get surveillance video where she says you can hear and see the homeowner shooting her son.
“In the beginning of the video, my son is begging and asking to call 911,” Jackson said. “That’s a clear call for help if you ask me.”
In November, NBC6 spoke with the homeowner who detectives said pulled the trigger. He claimed Jackson’s son was trying to force his way inside the house.
“I had no intentions of killing him,” the homeowner said. “When he barged at me, I got scared and panicked. It’s unfortunate, it’s the worst night of my life.”
Jackson wants justice.
“Your worst nightmare, this is a nightmare for all of us,” Jackson said. “He has three kids who will never know their father for their own.”
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said there are no updates and no arrests at this time.
