Actress Devon Aoki’s husband arrested in Coral Gables hit-and-run that hurt scooter rider: Police

The husband of actress Devon Aoki has been arrested in a hit-and-run in Coral Gables that left a scooter rider with serious injuries, police said.

James Hunter Bailey, 40, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury and resisting an officer without violence, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

According to an arrest report, Coral Gables Police responded to the crash around 5:15 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Douglas Road and Giralda Avenue.

Witnesses told police an Audi SQ7 SUV collided with a pedestrian and fled, and several cameras captured the vehicle fleeing, the report said.

Investigators determined the victim, Jonathan Stephen King, was riding a stand-up scooter in the crosswalk when he was struck by the Audi.

King suffered serious injuries to his foot, including two fractures, along with a large contusion to his calf.

His girlfriend said she witnessed the crash and ran to the driver’s side door of the Audi as King’s foot was stuck under the wheel, frantically asking the driver to move so he could get out from under the wheel, the report said.

That’s when the driver fled the scene.

Police went to Bailey’s home and met with Aoki, one of the registered owners of the Audi, who said she didn’t know where the SUV was, the report said.

While officers were at the home, Bailey pulled up and parked the Audi, the report said.

A sergeant called out for Bailey to come towards him but Bailey ran into his home and locked the front door, the report said.

After several minutes, Bailey exited his home and he was taken into custody, the report said.

The report said the Audi had minor damage consistent with a collision with a pedestrian on a stand-up scooter.

Bailey was brought to a hospital then booked into jail. He was expected to appear before a bond court judge on Tuesday.

Aoki, 43, is a model and actress who starred in “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Sin City” and other films before retiring.
