A man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly fatally stabbed a woman, unprovoked, inside a Barnes & Noble store in Palm Beach Gardens.
Officers responded at around 7:53 p.m. to the book store on 11380 Legacy Avenue, where they found the victim unresponsive with “a knife imbedded in her back,” according to an arrest report.
A suspect matching surveillance video and several witnesses’ accounts was arrested about 1,500 feet away from the entrance, police said. He was identified as 40-year-old Antonio Roderick Moore.
Authorities said that during an interview, Moore told them he had been in Palm Beach Gardens for about a week and had come from Georgia by bus. He allegedly told police that he was charging his phone inside the Barnes & Noble when “there was an internal build up that led to his fight or flight response kicking in” and he stabbed the closest person to him in the back with a fixed blade knife he had in his jacket pocket.
An arrest report details that he heard the woman say, “‘He stabbed me’ and seemed to be in shock of the attack.”
The victim, identified as Rita Berenice Loncharich was rushed to the hospital but did not survive surgery, authorities said.
After the stabbing, the suspect allegedly ran from the store and went to the woods. Hee was found by law enforcement and arrested.
Police said “no prior interaction between Antonio and Rita was observed during investigation to cause any provocation, or any act from Antonio to be the result in the heat of passion.”
Moore was charged with first-degree premeditate murder.
